DEP Hosts Public Hearing in Meadville - YourErie.com - Powered by JET 24 and FOX 66 Erie PA

January 15, 2014 - Community members attended a public hearing tonight in Meadville hosted by the Department of Environmental Protection to get feedback on proposed regulations for oil and gas surface activities.

Back in 2012, Governor Corbett signed the Oil and Gas Act - which drastically changed the state's oil and gas laws to address unconventional well development.

Unconventional, applying to gas extracted from the Marcellus and Utica Shale formations.

Just this past August, the DEP and the Environmental Quality Board decided new regulations were needed to make sure the state's oil and gas resources are developed safely and in a way that protects the environment.

At this time, a public comment period is open so that the community can weigh in on the proposed regulations.

If you didn’t get the chance to attend the public comment session, you can submit comments to the Environmental Quality Board online at www.ahs.dep.pa.gov/RegComments.
