IN THE DARK: Elected and appointed officials work hard to keep Pennsylvania residents in the dark. For example, local, state and federal officials met recently in McKean County to discuss two unexplained house explosions in that northwestern Pennsylvania county since December. McKean County Sheriff Brad Mason told the Bradford Era newspaper the meeting concerned questions of natural gas migration. However, the public and the press were excluded from this meeting on a very public concern. Somehow, though, some natural gas utilities and at least one drilling firm were allowed to attend. This is the rule, not the exception when it comes to open government in Pennsylvania.Read More
